The book describes the attitudes of sages and rabbis of different generations throughout history toward philosophy and the development of science.
For example, Rambam considered it possible and useful to study the art of logic and sciences such as algebra, mechanics, and astronomy, formulating rules for sanctifying the new moon based on the knowledge of scientists in the fields of astronomy and mathematics.
However, not all Torah sages were supportive of the study of secular sciences, and this is the purpose of the book: to present different points of view on this issue.
One should study sciences that help to know God, and any intellectual pursuits that may lead to apostasy are unacceptable.
